Responsible for curating the Scenic Eclipse guest wellbeing experiences is Raj Dhariwal, head of spa operations. Raj has been instrumental in leading a number of on board enhancements and developments to the Scenic Eclipse wellbeing program. Q: What are some of the recent developments made to Senses Spa?
The team have made many enhancements to Senses Spa during 2021. Guests will feel a sense of calm as soon as they enter our beautiful reception area, greeted by a light display of the gingko leaf where your senses all come alive at once from the visual surrounds and aromatics. The waiting room has now been transformed into a spacious manicure and pedicure room that guests are enjoying. The sauna area also received additional features, which provides guests with more privacy and feelings of comfort and relaxation.
Q: What changes have been made to the program?
Scenic we are proud to be partnering with ESPA, an internationally recognised spa provider offering luxurious pampering treatments catered to all our guests needs. ESPA have curated an extensive menu of spa services+ for our guest’s enjoyment, like therapeutic treatments using natural oils to release tension and boost the immune system; and ESPA's pioneering Tri-Active™ formula used in all our facials that contain plant extracts, marine active ingredients, and essential oils. These deeply cleansing facials will help to clear pores, moisturise, improve circulation, and protect skin from everyday stress.

Q: What services and experience are most popular on board?
I have to say our most popular services would be our wide range of different massages, as well as our sauna and steam room area. The plunge pool and the outside pool lounge area really appeal to guests and the new manicures and pedicures, now made possible in our new area, have been in high demand.
Q: How are these indulgent spaces and treatments perceived by guests and what does it mean to have these facilities available?
The Senses Spa is truly one of the most sought-after spaces on board Scenic Eclipse, where guests can retreat to feel restored and rejuvenated. Our guests crave the first-class health and wellness treatments+ and facilities they can find here, knowing that their wellbeing is such an important factor in staying healthy and ensuring they can enjoy and take in every moment of their voyage. Fitness and Holistic classes
Scenic Eclipse is the first ultra-luxury cruise ship to include a dedicated yoga and Pilates studio. Classes are included for all guests. New sessions that also embrace the benefits of holistic therapies, mindfulness and group experiences have been added to the program in 2021. Here’s some of the guided classes that you can look forward to joining with a wellbeing professional leading and encouraging you, no matter what your level of fitness or experience – there’s a class to suit everyone.
Improve muscle tone and flexibility during a yoga session. Yoga is a group of physical, mental, and spiritual practices or disciplines that originated in ancient India, aimed at controlling and stilling the mind. Regular practice helps you to recognise the detached 'witness-consciousness' as untouched by the activities of the mind and mundane suffering. During this full-body workout, expect to work all major muscle groups.
Increase your muscle strength and tone, particularly of your abdominal muscles, lower back and hips during a Pilates class. Pilates is a form of exercise which concentrates on strengthening the body with an emphasis on core strength. This helps to improve general fitness and overall wellbeing. Similar to Yoga, Pilates concentrates on posture, balance and flexibility. In Pilates, the chance of injury is much lower than with other more strenuous forms of exercise
There are several types of Meditation, where an individual uses a technique – such as mindfulness, or focusing the mind on a particular object, thought, or activity – to train attention and awareness, and achieve a mentally clear and emotionally calm and stable state. Meditation is also known to provide peace of mind and serenity, to foster increased compassion, help you discover your purpose and a deeper understanding of yourself and others. Between your onshore discoveries, take some time to quiet your mind and bring the body, mind and spirit into harmony and achieve a deeper level of relaxation.
LEFT: Pure Yoga Pilates Studio, Scenic Eclipse
This helps to reduce stress and relieve compression of the spine, during an aerial yoga class. In this beginner-friendly type of yoga, you will use a hammock or yoga swing to allow you to perform postures that they may not ordinarily be possible on a yoga mat. It is often also referred to as AntiGravity® yoga. It combines traditional yoga with moves inspired by Pilates, dance and acrobatics.
Aerobic Dance Class
A dance aerobics class is a form of physical exercise that combines rhythmic aerobic exercise with stretching and strength training routines. While you’re improving all elements of your fitness (flexibility, muscular strength, and cardio-vascular fitness), you’ll experience the added benefit of boosting your self-confidence too while burning body fat and toning muscles.
Expect a full body, interval workout when you sign up for a Zumba class, which is a combination of salsa and aerobics. Burn calories and build endurance at the session moves between high- and low-intensity dance moves designed to get your heart rate up, boost cardio endurance and fitness. This is the perfect class to try as you journey through the birthplace of salsa, South America.

Work on all the major muscle groups during a full body, boot camp workout. It is basically a type of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) — with bursts of intense activity alternated with intervals of lighter activity. A boot camp workout also can include functional fitness, such as using whole-body, multi-joint exercises. A great fat-burner and is known to improve sleep and reduce stress.
TRX Suspension Training
Suitable for all ages, TRX is a form of suspension training that uses body weight exercises to develop strength, balance, flexibility and core stability simultaneously. It requires the use of the TRX Suspension Trainer, a performance training tool that leverages gravity and the user’s body weight to complete the exercises. It will also help improve your body’s natural functional capabilities, mobility and flexibility and is low in impact.
The Power Abs workout uses exercises that activate all of those muscle groups helping your body develop a powerful abdominal wall that will take your physical ability to an entirely new level. Firm up your abdominals which act as an anchor, with strengthened abdominals reducing back pain and supporting quality posture. A medium level of fitness is required for this workout, it’s not suitable for beginners.
Sound Bowl Meditation Class
During one of these classes, sounds provide relaxation and overwhelm the constant chatter of the mind. Sound bowl meditation has been shown to reduce anxiety, stress, and depression as it gently focuses the user on the sound, relegating all other stimuli to the background.
They are traditionally made from metal with the Tibetan singing bowl being the most popular. Benefits include deep relaxation, reduced stress and anxiety, chakra balancing and an aided immune system.
